Jesse L. Hallford came to California as a young boy, and the family worked the fields and farms up and down the California farm valleys and coast lands until his lumber industry work began in northern Mendocino County. He was called to serve and honorably discharged from the Army after serving his country, stationed in Japan during the Korean War. After his discharge in 1954 he returned to his wife and family and resumed his work in the redwood lumber industry near Leggett, and later moved to Hopland, Ca. where he worked at the Hopland lumber mill until 1962. He then joined his brothers to purchase Chisms Cannery Sales in Lincoln, Ca. and moved his young family to Lincoln, to open the first of several stores owned by the family over the
years. Jesse left the grocery business in the early '80s, returning to his lumber industry roots and hired on at the Sierra Pacific mill in Lincoln, where he worked for two decades, finishing his tenure as lead chain-man at his retirement at age 65.
Jesse has been laid to rest next to his wife Joyce, at Sierra View Memorial Park in Olivehurst, CA. Remembrances or tributes may be made with donations to the American Heart Association, the Alzheimer's Association or your local hospice services. The family thanks Suncrest Hospice and Summerset Assisted Living of Lincoln for their caring service to our father.
